• You can search by Artist Name, Tune, Recording Title, or Program Date. Make sure you select the correct search type using the radio buttons above!
• The search string must be at least three characters long.
• The program date must be of the form YYYY-MM-DD, e.g. 2000-12-23. Note that the program date is the date of the morning on which the show aired. For example, what might be considered the Monday night show actually airs on Tuesday morning, so you should use the date for Tuesday if searching for the Monday night program.
• The search only performs substring matching, so if your search string is "one two" it will match "XXone twoZZ", but it won't match "two one" or "one YYY two".
• Use the smallest substring that you think will match. For example, if looking for "c schultz and hajsch", try searching for just "schultz" or just "hajsch". You are likely to get more hits this way.
• Spelling mistakes in the database entries might prevent you from getting a match when you expect one. (For example, "schultz" might be entered as "schulz" or "shulz".)
• The word "and" may have been entered as an ampersand ("&"); for example, "belle and sebastian" could also be entered as "belle & sebastian". In this case, it would be best to search for just "belle" or just "sebastian".
• The database only contains the playlists published on the CBC's web site. So far, there are 71 playlists for 1999, 210 for 2000, 252 for 2001, 251 for 2002, 246 for 2003, 247 for 2004, 161 for 2005, and 123 for 2006. Full list available here (CBC InSite links) and here (local links).
• The database is updated at the end of the month (or whenever there is a month's worth of new playlists). You can get the most up-to-date playlists from the CBC's web site.
• Use the Advanced Search page for more sophisticated queries

There was never anything officially announced (are these things ever officially announced?), but the May 27, 2006 show ended with a roll call of all the past contributors to Brave New Waves and what sounded like a final goodbye. (A low quality recording of the May 27 show in Ogg Vorbis format has been uploaded here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=360EO9F0; Michael Barclay has posted the set list here.)

Then, in September 2006, after months of repeats, new shows began airing featuring new hosts. The format changed to one hour of new music followed by three hours of material culled from the archives ("the best of Brave New Waves, with Patti Schmidt"). The new hosts included Jarrett Martineau (previously host of CBC TV's Zed Real), Steve Guimond (CKUT-FM, Hour magazine), Helen Spitzer, and Joshua Karpati.

On Wednesday January 17, 2007, the CBC announced major changes to its radio programming. As of March 19, 2007, Brave New Waves will no longer be broadcast on CBC Radio Two.

The first article above seems to imply that the show will become available on one of CBC's Sirius satellite radio channels. It is unclear whether there will be new shows or just repeats from the archives.

Update (22/01/2007): The first article was updated since I last read it and there is now no reference to Brave New Waves. It used to read:

With Radio Two poised as an adult-oriented music service, the public broadcaster's more youth-oriented music offerings - like CBC Radio Three and Brave New Waves - will only be available on CBC's Sirius satellite channels and via podcasting.
